Mellott - Mrs. Alta Maude Ferris, 71, of Mellott died Monday morning in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. She was a member of the Mellott Christian Church. Mrs. Ferris was born May 24, 1901, in Hardin County, Ky., a daughter of Jake and Agnes Williams Austin. She first married William J. Connell in 1919. She later married John W. Ferris in 1963. He survives. Also surviving are three sons, William O. Connell of Crawfordsville, Francis J. Connell of Mellott and Daniel L. Connell of Montrose, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Devonna A. Wilson of Crawfordsville; seven brothers, John Austin of Linden, Cecil Austin of Pittsboro, Wayne Austin of Indianapolis, Carrell "Bud" Austin of Crawfordsville and Russell, Chester and Stanley Austin, all of Mellott. She was preceded in death by two sons, Oral and Sylvester, and a daughter, Lelia Loretta Wright. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hunt and Son Funeral Home at Crawfordsville. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Mellott, Ind. - Mrs. Alta Maude Ferris, 71, of Mellott, died Monday morning (Oct. 30, 1972) at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville after a lengthy illness. Born May 24, 1901, in Hardin County, Ky., she was the daughter of Jake and Agnes Williams Austin. She was married to William J. Connell in 1919. She later married John W. Ferris in 1963, who survives. She was a member of the Mellott Church of Christ. Other survivors include three sons, William O. Connell of Crawfordsville, Francis J. Connell of Mellott and Daniel L. Connell of Montrose, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Devonna A. Wilson of Crawfordsville; seven brothers, John Austin of Linden, Cecil Austin of Pittsboro, Wayne Austin of Indianapolis, Carrell Austin of Crawfordsville and Russell Austin, Chester Austin and Stanley Austin, all of Mellott; and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Oral Connell and Sylvester Connell; and a daughter, Lelia Loretta Wright. Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Thursday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home at Crawfordsville. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery near Crawfordsville. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
